Basic Prayers

Prayers your child should know before grade one:

We will be praying these in class with your child. Praying them at home each evening before bedtime, or any other time that works best for you, along with any other intentions you have, is a great way to help your child discover the value in setting aside prayer/conversation time with the Lord.

Sign of the Cross (using right hand)
In the name of the Father
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen

Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who
Trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Amen

Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen

The Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

** THE ACT OF CONTRITION- **Children will learn this in 1st and 2nd Grade. (they choose one)

 O my God, I am truly sorry for having offended You.  I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love.  I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life.
Amen.

Or:

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.  In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.  Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name,
my God have mercy.  Amen.

Or:

Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Amen
May God bless you and your family as you prepare for these joyous sacraments!
